From the very first email contact to our last farewell at Heathrow, which threatened to bring this typically unemotional fellow to tears, your good-natured, helpful, level-headed advice and light-handed direction has been superb. How you managed to wrangle such a diverse group of people, from the locquacious and glamorous B, to the errant and sense-deprived L, is a miracle of expert human relations. Under your leadership we fitted in and experienced a score of museums, shows, celebrations and re-enactments which none of us could have done alone. Your ability to turn setbacks into unexpected triumphs, like the cancelled aircraft wreckage museum visit which morphed into the visit to Winston Churchill's house, Chartwell, shows brilliant lateral thinking and demonstrates how well you can dig up a "Plan B" to suit sudden unavoidable changes of circumstances. Your pre-departure contacts with us all showed such care and attention to the most miniscule detail that there was absolutely nothing that could go wrong for us in any way.
